Constructing a Spiritual Space with Paper-Cutting
In the work of artist Chen Fenwan, paper transcends its conventional physical and spatial boundaries to become a realm of unrestrained creativity. Her collaboration with FENDI Peekaboo originates from the exploration of “order” in her iconic piece Symmetrical Nature. Through meticulous handcrafting, a forest totem rendered in shades of pink and blue reveals the artist’s gestures, postures, and emotional expression. The paper-cut forms evoke a layered, interwoven sense of order, while simultaneously embodying a feeling of fluidity—and even ephemerality.
The work was presented in May 2023 at the FENDI Hand in Hand Craftsmanship Exhibition held at Temple Dongjingyuan, Beijing.
